5 Simple Ways We Reset for the Week at Cave Hill

Mondays at Cave Hill Wood Co. don’t always look like your typical “clock-in, clock-out” job. As a small business run by a husband-and-wife team (with some serious coffee addiction), we’ve learned that a little reset at the beginning of the week can go a long way.

Here are 5 simple things we do every Monday to kick off the week and keep the chaos organized — well… mostly organized.

1️⃣ Coffee First, Always ☕

Let’s be honest: no task gets done without coffee around here. Before we touch a tool or open an email, we sit down together with a hot cup, catch up on weekend orders, and talk about what’s coming up.

2️⃣ Quick Shop Tidy

Sawdust happens. So do wood scraps, half-finished projects, and the occasional lost tool. Every Monday, we spend 15-20 minutes giving the shop a light tidy — clearing off the benches, sweeping the floors, and resetting the workspace so we’re not stepping over each other (or the dog).

3️⃣ Make the Master List

The “brain dump” list is our best friend. Every Monday, we write down everything floating around in our heads:

  • Orders to ship
  • Supplies to order
  • New ideas to try
  • Content to post
  • Home projects (because life happens outside the shop too!)

Once it’s all written down, we can break it into smaller, doable chunks.

4️⃣ Prioritize 3 Main Tasks

Instead of trying to do everything at once (been there, failed at that), we each pick 3 main things to focus on for the week.

John’s might be sanding a new batch of wood blanks, while I might focus on burning new designs or packing orders.

5️⃣ Take a Breath

The biggest part of the Monday reset? We remind ourselves that we’re not perfect, and that’s okay. This business was born out of some of the hardest parts of our lives, so we’ve learned to give ourselves grace when weeks don’t go as planned.

Progress over perfection — every single time.

If you run a small business (or just a busy household), I hope our little Monday routine gives you a few ideas. Resetting doesn’t have to be complicated — sometimes it’s as simple as a cup of coffee and a clean workspace.
